After enjoying breakfast at your hotel in Kandy, the tuk tuk trip will depart around 8:00 AM, making stops at several fascinating tourist spots along the way to Pinnawala.

Our primary destination is the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, a unique place to see elephants up close. Established in 1975 by the Sri Lanka Department of Wildlife Conservation, this institution cares for young elephants that have been separated or lost in the wilderness. These beautiful creatures are nurtured, raised, and bred in a protected environment. Located 13 kilometers northeast of Kegalle town, in Pinnawala village, it houses the world’s largest herd of captive elephants. The best time to visit is between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM, when the baby elephants are fed milk and taken to the river for their daily bath—a delightful experience for visitors as they watch these gentle giants play and splash in the water.

On the return trip to Kandy, our first stop will be the Spice and Herbal Garden. Globally known for its variety of exotic spices and herbs, Sri Lanka is a haven for spice enthusiasts. A visit to an herb garden provides an in-depth look at the island’s rich history with spices and herbs. You’ll get to observe the natural growth of turmeric, pepper, cloves, cardamom, nutmeg, vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa beans, aloe vera, and many more spices.

Next, we’ll visit a tea factory and plantation. Your trip to Sri Lanka wouldn’t be complete without exploring a tea plantation. We’ll guide you through the journey of a tea leaf, from the plant to the cup, illustrating Sri Lanka’s distinct tea culture and its global reputation.

Our last stop before concluding the tour is the majestic Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens. Home to over 4,000 plant species, from vibrant flowers to towering palm trees, these gardens are located just 5.5 kilometers from Kandy city and cover an impressive 147 acres. Bordered by the Mahaweli River, Sri Lanka’s largest river, the gardens provide a serene atmosphere for exploration and relaxation.

After a day full of unforgettable experiences, the Pinnawala tuk tuk tour will conclude back at your hotel, courtesy of Ceylon Waves.
