In recognition of its cultural and historical value, UNESCO declared Kandy a World Heritage Site in 1988.

The next stop is Bahirawakanda Temple, also known as Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya, distinguished by its towering Buddha statue, which can be seen from almost any part of Kandy. Situated on Bahirawakanda Hill, this iconic statue offers panoramic views of the surrounding cityscape.

This ancient monastery, constructed in 1344 AD by King Buwanekabahu IV, was designed by South Indian architect Ganesvarachchari and features elements reminiscent of South Indian architectural styles. Our final stop is the Nelligala Buddhist Temple in the village of Muruthalawa, which also serves as an international Buddhist center. Construction of this modern temple began in 2015. Perched on top of a mountain, the site provides a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscapes, including Alagalla Mountain, Batalegala, and the Hanthana Mountain Range.
