  • Following a delightful breakfast, the tuk-tuk journey begins at the former Hanthana Tea Factory, established in 1925, which now houses the Ceylon Tea Museum. Situated about 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) south of Kandy, this museum opened its doors on December 1, 2001, under the leadership of Clifford Ratwatte, the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tea Board. After being vacant for over a decade, the factory was renovated by the Sri Lanka Tea Board and the Planters’ Association of Sri Lanka in 2001.

The museum features exhibits on early tea pioneers like James Taylor and Thomas Lipton, along with an extensive collection of antique tea processing machinery. The ground floor displays colonial-era equipment such as rollers, dryers, fermentation tables, and sorting devices from the 19th century. The second floor hosts a library and additional exhibits, while the third floor includes a tea shop, and the top floor features a restaurant and tea rooms offering beautiful views.

Our next stop is the Damro Labookellie Tea Centre and Tea Garden. Previously known as Mackwoods, this facility is one of the oldest tea shops in Sri Lanka, encompassing an impressive 5000 hectares of luxurious tea plantations. During the visit, you will have the opportunity to learn about the different production methods for both black and white tea. A complimentary tea tasting will be available at the end of the factory tour.

Finally, we will visit Ramboda Falls, where water cascades dramatically down a rocky cliff with a tiered formation, located near the Nuwara Eliya highway. With a drop of 109 meters (358 feet), it ranks as the eleventh highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. The falls are formed by the Panna Oya, a tributary of the Kothmale Oya, and are framed by an emerald forest, creating a breathtaking backdrop.

After enjoying the beauty of Ramboda Falls, we will return to your hotel, concluding this memorable tuk-tuk tour with Ceylon Waves.
